About

About me

I’m a Research Fellow (Gambling) at the Brain & Mind Centre, University of Sydney, Australia.

I’ve bounced around the world in different academic posts in the UK and Australia since finishing my PhD in Psychology in 2019, but found a home in Sydney and I’m here to stay as of November 2023 (I need to update the map and table below!).

I’m interested in the science of addiction with a passion for data science and visualisation.

About my work

My career aim is to conduct research that can help prevent and reduce the harms associated with activities like gambling and substance use.

I’m also an advocate for increasing transparency and openness in research and so some of my work focuses on scientific reform within the addiction field.

Here’s a visual summary of my peer-reviewed publications by year and topic area:

Year Extreme sports Alcohol Gambling Scientific reform Other
2016 2 1 0 0 0
2017 0 0 0 0 0
2018 1 1 0 0 0
2019 0 1 0 0 0
2020 0 1 0 1 1
2021 0 2 2 0 0
2022 0 1 2 1 0
2023 0 1 1 2 0
Note: I do not believe that the number of papers someone publishes per year is an indicator of ability or impact. This table is meant to illustate patterns in my publishing history only. There is overlap between the gamblng & scientific reform categories in 2022 & 23 where one paper is counted in both.

About this site

I made this site and all the visualisations in it from scratch with Quarto, using mostly R and CSS code.

I store the full texts for all of my scientific publications here.
